About Duo-Plank Flooring
Duo-Plank is the the new revolution in wide plank flooring from the Netherlands, which sets the standard for all flooring installations with the added assurance of incredible stability and amazing engineered precision.
Duo-Plank brings the natural beauty of wide plank hardwood flooring to any sized project, whether it be a commercial or domestic installation.
In the past wide plank flooring has caused installation headaches due to cupping, swelling, shrinkage and warping but Duo-Plank has the solution. Duo-Plank has a unique construction of a 10mm multi-layer water resistant Plywood and a 6mm hardwood top layer. This creates a hardwood floor that is extremely stable and far less likely to react to variations in atmospheric conditions, which means that it is suitable for use on projects where underfloor heating is specified.
Duo-Plank can be laid as a floating floor on a resilient underlay, stuck to an existing sub-floor or secret nailed to battens as a structural plank.
The versatility and ease of use makes Duo-Plank a product of choice for both DIY and professional markets alike.
Duo-Plank is available in 180mm and 240mm widths that can be supplied pre-lacquered or oiled. The pre-finished boards are supplied with a micro bevelled edge joint to enhance the individual beauty of each plank, whilst the unfinished boards can be supplied with a micro bevel or just square edged.
Oak planks are also available in coloured variations including single or double smoked, distressed or white chalked.
Plank lengths vary depending on wood species however most lengths are 2100-2400mm for oak and 1800-2400mm for exotic species. All planks are 21mm thick.
Duo Plank is available in many different wood species, each one carefully selected to reflect the timeless quality of each natural hardwood, whether you choose the natural warmth of Oak, the light spacious feel of Maple or the dark variations of the distinct Walnut plank.
Grading & Selection
All planks are selected and graded at source and because wood is a natural product, each plank will be individual. All flooring must be examined on arrival for any defects, once installed it can not be returned.
Technical
It has been argued that engineered flooring does not provide the wear surface of a solid floor. As the side elevation picture shows, the hardwood top layer extends virtually all the way to the tongue therefore providing the same wear layer as solid flooring. Any hardwood below the tongue is virtually surplus to requirement other than to make up the structure of the board.
Conditions
Changing conditions causes movement in all types of wooden flooring. The recommended moisture content of a concrete sub-floor is 75% RH or below (65% for underfloor heating) and if fitted on an existing wooden sub-floor the moisture content must be no greater than in the floor to be fitted. Temperature can also have an effect on flooring. All flooring should be laid in an ambient environment as close to the living temperature as possible, usually between 16-22°C.
Underfloor Heating
The underfloor heating must be of a well recognised manufacturer and designed for purpose, with a built in thermostat. The heating system must be designed for purpose with thermostatic control; all supplied and fitted by a respectable company. The heating system must be commissioned and running for approximately 1 week, then turned down to a minimum before floor installation. When the installation is complete this temperature must be brought up gradually. The surface temperature of the flooring must not exceed 26°C.
Duo-Plank Installation
GLUEING: When sticking Duo-Plank to an existing sub-floor the levels must be no greater than + or -2mm over the length of a 3 metre straight edge, and stuck using a recognised brand of flexible parquet adhesive. Expansion of 10mm required at all abutments.
FLOATING: When floating Duo-Plank the level tolerances must be no greater than + or- 3mm over the length of a 3 metre straight edge and the resilient foam layer must not exceed 4mm, with the exception of high density acoustic matting or acoustic fibre board. Expansion of min 10mm to all abutments.
NAILING: When secret nailing Duo-Plank, we recommend that flooring approved nails are used and the end of each plank is fully supported on a batten. Expansion of 10mm to all abutments.
MAINTENANCE: Duo-Plank should be cleaned using anti-static mops or vacuum cleaners. Always avoid using water to clean the floor, however a damp cloth can be used to remove stubborn marks. Never use abrasive cleaning products. Always use protective pads on furniture and we would always encourage the use of entrance mats to avoid excess grit and dirt ingress.
